Invasive & Interventional Cardiology
Dr Ronald Henry
Dr Ronald Henry is an Interventional Cardiologist and is widely regarded as the regional pioneer in the field of Interventional Cardiology. After obtaining his Medical Degree with Honours from the University of the West Indies he did his first Post Graduate training in Internal Medicine at Upstate Medical Centre attached to the State University of New York. He then did his fellowship training in Cardiology at DC General Hospital, Washington, DC. He is American Board Certified in Cardiology and Internal Medicine and is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and of the American College of Cardiology. He was in fact appointed to the ACC’s International Assembly of Governors as the Governor for the Caribbean Chapter. He is also a Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology and a Fellow of the Society of Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions.
He was instrumental in the establishment of the first cath lab in Trinidad and Tobago at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex in 1991. He performed the first angiogram and first angioplasty in Trinidad and Tobago and that is just two in an extremely long list of firsts in Interventional Cardiology. He is a former president of the Caribbean Cardiac Society and for his outstanding contributions in the field of Cardiology he was a recipient of a distinguished service award from the Caribbean Cardiology Society and a national award in the form of the Chaconia Silver Medal.
Dr Henry is the Medical Director of ACI and a Consultant Interventional Cardiologist.
Dr Clifford Thomas
Dr. Clifford Thomas is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians London and a graduate of the University of the West Indies, Jamaica. He underwent cardiology and interventional cardiology fellowship training at the Royal Free Hospital, London, United Kingdom and at the Andreas Gruentzig Cardiovascular Center, Emory University, in Atlanta, Georgia.
His academic appointments have included those at the following universities: Johns Hopkins, Emory, Morehouse and the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine campus; where he has trained medical students, residents and fellows. Dr. Thomas has also published papers in peer-reviewed journals, such as Circulation, Am Heart J, Am J Cardiology, Thrombosis Res and West Indian Med J. He is currently the Managing Director at Premier Heart Care Ltd, Trinidad and Tobago.
At the ACI Cath Lab, Dr. Thomas performs diagnostic and interventional procedures, including coronary angiography and coronary angioplasty (PCI).
Dr. Naveen Seecharan
Dr. Naveen Seecheran is an American Board of Internal Medicine certified Interventional Cardiologist.
His postgraduate training included being a Chief Interventional Cardiology and Structural Fellow at the University of Vermont Medical Center and Chief Medical Resident at the University of Florida. He also completed a Masters in Clinical Trials at the University of London.
Currently, he is a Lecturer (Above Bar) in Adult Medicine at his alma mater, the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine. He has over 40 publications in several prestigious cardiology journals such as the JACC, JACC Interventions, Circulation Interventions, Thrombosis and Heart.
He has also been inducted as a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, Royal College of Physicians, American College of Cardiology and European Society of Cardiology, Society of Cardiac Angiography and Interventions.
Electrophysiology
Dr. Lana Boodhoo
Dr Lana Boodhoo is a Trinidadian consultant cardiologist and electrophysiologist. She obtained her medical degree at the University of the West Indies, and did postgraduate training in the UK. In 2004 she was awarded a medical PhD from the University of London for her research into atrial fibrillation. Her research was incorporated in the UK’s guidelines on heart rhythm management.

She underwent specialist training in Cardiology in Liverpool, England, sub-specialising the relatively new field of cardiac electrophysiology,. She returned to Trinidad in 2009 as the Caribbean’s first resident Electrophysiologist. Her initiatives have included the establishment of the region’s first heart rhythm clinic, the first cardiac ablations in the public sector, and the regions first AFablations.

Dr. Jose Ettedgui
Jose Ettedgui is a highly respected and experienced Interventional Pediatric Cardiologist based at the Pediatric Cardiovascular Center, University of Florida in Jacksonville.
A native of Venezuela, Dr Ettedgui is a graduate of the University of Carabobo in Venezuela. His post graduate training includes a research fellowship in Pediatric Cardiology and a research registrar in Adult and Pediatric Cardiology at Guy’s Hospital in London England.
He was USA Board Certified in Pediatric Cardiology and a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatrics. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and the Society for Cardiac Angiography and Intervention.
He is a Professor of Pediatric Cardiology and the Chief of Pediatric Cardiology at the University of Florida in Jacksonville. He has published numerous peer reviewed research articles in several prestigious scientific journals.
Dr Ettedgui is available for virtual consultation on Interventional Pediatric Cardiology and Structural and Adult Congenital Cardiology at ACI and does procedures at ACI on a visiting basis.
Interventional Radiology
Dr. Allan Thomas
Dr Allan Thomas is a Consultant Neuroradiologist (Radiologist specialized in disorders of the brain, spine and associated nervous system as well as the Head & neck). He was born in Trinidad and Tobago and graduated from St Mary’s College. He went on to obtain his medical degree and specialist DM in Radiology from the University of the West Indies. He spent the final year of his DM training in the UK where he pursued an in depth exposure to Neuroradiology. He obtained his Fellowship of the Royal College of Radiology in the UK (2001) and went on to do Fellowship training in cross sectional and interventional Neuroradiology in London and Nottingham. He has since held Consultant Interventional Neuroradiology posts in Nottingham and Birmingham in the UK continuously over the period 2003 to 2019 before accepting a new post in Hamilton, New Zealand where he is currently based.
Dr Thomas has a tremendous wealth of experience in neuro-oncology and neurovascular, diagnostic and interventional services as well as head and neck as well as skull base imaging . He is a highly regarded proctor for novel interventional neuroradiology devices and neuroradiology tutor. He has participated in numerous cancer, spinal intervention and stroke intervention trials. He has published numerous articles in his field. Dr Thomas has provided sub-specialist MRI neuroradiology service for MRI of Trinidad and Tobago for over a decade and has done numerous Interventional Neurradiology Procedures at ACI on a visiting basis.
Dr. Narindra Ramnarine
Dr Narindra Ramnarine is a Consultant Neurosurgeon who has completed fellowship training in Vascular and Interventional Neurosurgery in Salford Royal Hospital Foundation NHS trust, Manchester, UK. He is therefore one of a few experts in the world that can do both Neurosurgery and Endovascular Neuro-Interventions. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons and is a consultant neurosurgeon at the San Fernando General Hospital.
Dr. Ramnarine provides the full range of endovascular Neuro Interventions at ACI and this includes treatment for cerebral aneurysms using coils and flow diverters as well the endovascular treatment of acute stroke. All of which can be done on an emergency basis.

Dr Prashant Vaijyanath is an experienced Cardiothoracic Surgeon who is held in very high esteem by his peers due to his unique clinical abilities and excellent, exemplary surgical results even in very complex cardiac cases.

Dr. Roberto Casula
Dr Roberto Casula is a Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon based at Hammersmith Hospital, which is part of the Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust.
He is a native of Italy and a graduate of Padua University Medical School in Italy where he completed his Specialist Training in Cardiac Surgery. He is European Board qualified in Cardiac Surgery and Thoracic Surgery and a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeon of England.
He has been a consultant cardiothoracic surgeon since 1998 and has been part of the Imperial College Trust since 2009. He is a highly respected Cardiothoracic Surgeon with a specific interest in ‘off pump’ Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (OPCAB) procedures as well as Minimal Access aortic, Mitral and Tricuspid Valves surgery and Atrial Fibrillation Surgery.
He has maintained a specific academic, teaching and clinical interest in the field of robotic and minimal invasive surgery since 2001 and was the pioneer of robotic cardiac surgery at St. Mary’s Hospital until the relocation of the cardiothoracic services to Hammersmith in 2009.
He has developed one of the largest minimal invasive cardiac surgical services in The UK. He is the head of minimal access team at the Imperial College and successfully performed several hundreds of less invasive valves and coronary operations in The UK with outstanding clinical results and patients’ satisfaction.
He is the Principal Investigator for a UK multicentre trial in minimal mitral surgery. He was involved with the start-up of trans-catheter heart valve (TAVI) procedures at St Mary’s hospital. He is the cardiac editor of a minimal access and robotic cardiothoracic textbook and co-authored over 100 peer-reviewed publications listed on PubMed
Dr Casula is the International Consultant for ACI Surgical Therapies Cardiothoracic Surgical program and was responsible for the start-up of our program and is available on a visiting basis to perform Cardiothoracic Surgeries at ACI.

Dr. Randolph Rawlins
Mr. Randolph Rawlins is a specialist UK trained cardiothoracic surgeon with over ten years of experience as a Consultant lead surgeon.
He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Cardiothoracic Surgery and a member of the Cardiothoracic Society of Great Britain & Northern Ireland UK.
His Cardiothoracic training in the UK included positions at Guys Hospital London, St. Thomas’ Hospital, Kings College Hospital London and Brighton & Sussex University Hospital.
At ACI Surgical Therapies, since 2009, he has performed a variety of cardiac procedures including coronary artery bypass grafting, Heart valve repair or replacement, aortic aneurysm surgery and the atrial fibrillation ablation maze operation.
Mr Rawlins has a special interest in Mitral Valve repair and arterial revascularization in Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery.
